Database Software Adds Direct Control of Plug-In Bar Code Scanners for Quick and Efficient Entry of Large Amounts of Data

Cambridge, MA (October 21, 2003) - SYWARE, Inc., a leading developer of intuitive, mobile database tools for business and personal productivity, and Socket Communications, Inc., the Mobile Connection™ company, today announced that Visual CE®, the award-winning database and forms developments software, has been enhanced to support Socket's new line of In-Hand Scan Cards™. Designed for applications requiring extensive data entry, the In-Hand Scan Cards provide one-handed bar code scanning at distances from 2 to 60+ inches. Visual CE now supports Socket's plug-in scanner cards, allowing developers to directly integrate scanning into their database application. Quick and efficient, 'one-click', software triggers can now be used to start bar code scans instead of the traditional, two-handed, manual process.

Creating Software Apps
Visual CE is a full-featured, relational database program. It provides an intuitive, drag-and-drop interface for quickly designing flexible forms and databases, with no programming required. Database forms can be designed, maintained, and run in full color either on the handheld device or the desktop computer. Once the application is developed, records can be easily beamed from one handheld device to another. Users can also share data with popular ODBC-enabled software like Microsoft SQL Server or Access, Lotus Approach, Sybase, Oracle, and Visual Basic. Royalty-free distribution of Visual CE applications means developers can quickly deploy their programs throughout the company at a fraction of the price of any other database program on the market.

Reporting and Printing Bar Code Information
Once the bar code data is scanned into Visual CE, reports can be created using SYWARE's Report CE®, the world's only reporting writing tool for Pocket PCs. Reports can be emailed as text attachments, or displayed and printed in color, providing a professional look and feel for the end product.
