SYWARE Intros New Visual CE^® Personal Edition; Adds Relational Database Capabilities, Macros, & Real-time Wireless Support

Cambridge, MA (October 28, 2002) - SYWARE, Inc., a leading developer of intuitive database tools for business and personal productivity, today announced a major upgrade of Visual CE^® Personal Edition, the award-winning database and forms development toolset designed specifically for building customized forms and databases on Windows CE and Pocket PC handheld computers. The new release of Visual CE Personal Edition, Version 7 remains easy-to-use and adds a wide range of features that were previously only available in the higher-end Visual CE Professional Edition. New functions in Visual CE Personal Edition include relational capabilities, real-time wireless access to server data, macros, GPS support, and 48 new numeric, string, and date functions, all for the same low price of the previous version, $129.

Advanced Feature Set
In addition to the existing array of forms design and synchronization functions, Visual CE Personal Edition, Version 7 now offers relational capabilities, macros, and real-time wireless access to server data. Relational capabilities allow data to be structured, stored, and retrieved across multiple tables; this means users can view data from multiple tables within one application and zero in on detailed data as needed. The software also supports macro programming for the easy creation of multi-step sequences. Marketing surveys, for example, can automatically route to a specific set of questions based on an initial response; if a survey respondent indicates that she has purchased products at the local department store, subsequent questions can inquire about her specific experiences at that store.

Visual CE Personal Edition, Version 7 also integrates with mEnable^®, SYWARE's breakthrough wireless architecture that extends handheld applications with real-time, interactive access to server data. Visual CE with mEnable allows mobile devices to be easily integrated with enterprise business processes by reading from or writing to any ODBC-enabled data source, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Access, or Sybase.

Powerful and Easy-to-Use
Visual CE Personal Edition, Version 7 also supports the full set of new functions introduced earlier this month as part of Visual CE, Version 7. Complete support for Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) devices, for instance, allows Visual CE to read and store positioning information for a variety of field applications that have traditionally relied on slow, paper-based communication, such as tracking flora and fauna, locating specific farm crops, and maintaining remote equipment.

Version 7 also supports such features as complete control of images, allowing pictures to be integrated into any Visual CE database; synchronization of multiple handhelds to the same desktop table; reading and writing of strings to the serial port; global variables; data grids, lookup controls, and 48 new numeric, string, and date functions, including sine, cosine, truncation.

Not included in Visual CE Personal Edition are royalty-free distribution of created forms and reports, and a bundled development license for mEnable. These capabilities can be obtained by upgrading to the Professional Edition or Enterprise Edition.
