The introductory and intermediate Visual CE and Associated Tools training classes have been scheduled for May 5 and 6, 2008 at the Marriott Boston North in Woburn MA. The introductory class is appropriate for someone who has never written a program before, but is comfortable with computers, or someone who has used desktop database development systems, such as MS Access, and wants to start developing similar applications for Pocket PCs. The intermediate class offers detailed instruction on using Visual CE and other SYWARE tools to create mobile data entry applications. The tuition is $299 for either day of instruction or $499 for both days. Each class is a full day of instruction and includes a continental breakfast, box lunch, and afternoon snack. A limited number of rooms are available at the Marriott. Contact SYWARE sales to reserve your spot. Details, including course outlines, are available here.

*** UPDATE *** There has been a clear indication that people want less introductory and more detailed instruction. We will be adjusting the curriculum accordingly. If there is something in particular you want covered, please let us know.

SYWARE Survey: Databases, SYWARE, and XML. We want to hear from you.

Do you use XML? How? Would you be interested in having XML features integrated into Visual CE or Report CE? In the past, people have asked us, "Do you do XML?" and (so far) we have been saying "Not yet". It's a new year and we are now seriously thinking about it for our next release. But we want it to be something useful for you. So let us know how you would like to use XML with Visual CE or Report CE. Send us your ideas, suggestions, and/or sample XML files.

Technical Tip from "Dr. DeeBee": Dividing a Table Among Different Handhelds

Say you have a table on the desktop/server called MyTable. Say you have three handhelds named Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. The handhelds are identified by the name specified in START | SETTINGS | SYSTEM | ABOUT | DEVICE ID. You can set things up so that some of the records in MyTable are synchronized with Alpha, some with Beta, and a some with Gamma. Here's how to set this up.

Mobile Industry Update: Does Your Handheld Know That We Are Now in Daylight Savings Time?

In some parts of the world, daylight savings time came early this year. Your desktop computer may have handled this properly. Has your handheld? If not, you may want to put in one of these patches from Microsoft. There is a patch to fix Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6 handhelds, and a patch to to fix Windows Mobile 2003 handhelds.
