Windows Mobile 7On October 11, 2010, Microsoft launched its new mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7. Microsoft is positioning Windows Phone 7 as the replacement for Windows Mobile 6. Unlike the Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6 operating systems, Windows Phone 7 is not backward compatible with any of the previous releases of Windows Mobile . All software (including the Visual CE, Report CE, and mEnable handheld components) has to be completely rewritten in order to run on Windows Phone 7. We regret to announce that, AT THIS TIME, we have decided not to port Visual CE, Report CE, or mEnable to Windows Phone 7. However, we are NOT abandoning our customers using SYWARE software on the older Windows Mobile operating systems. We will continue to provide support, sell additional licenses, and respond to your inquiries as we have in the past. FURTHERMORE... it is quite possible that, although you think you are using a Windows Mobile / Windows Phone device, you really are not. There is another Microsoft mobile operating system called Windows Embedded CE (Microsoft plans on changing its name to Windows Embedded Compact in the spring of 2011). Windows Mobile devices have a START flag in the UPPER left corner of the screen. Windows Embedded devices tend to have a START flag in the LOWER left corner of the screen. We always have, and will continue to, support all devices built on Windows Embedded CE...and will continue to support these devices even after Microsoft releases Windows Embedded Compact 7.0 this spring. A hardware reseller we've worked with the past sells a variety of Windows CE / Windows Mobile devices. They have reported back to us "Rest assured that all these devices are current, the manufacturers have no plans to discontinue any of them, and they all work perfectly with Visual CE based systems."
