tools for business and personal productivity, today announced that its
popular Visual CE database
development tool now supports Microsoft's new platform for handheld PCs,
Handheld PC 2000. Visual CE's drag-and-drop customization enables programmers
and non-programmers alike to easily create database and forms applications
in a variety of industries for the new generation of handheld devices-from
patient tracking in medical clinics to inventory management in retail
outlets to field surveys in customer support.

The Go
Anywhere Database
Visual CE applications
are created on any Windows 9x-, NT-, or 2000-based desktop system and
downloaded to the Handheld PC2000 device. Visual CE is designed to completely
mirror the look and feel of the device it is running on to provide a familiar
and consistent user experience. The software allows maximum flexibility
for accessing data, including full integration with the Pocket Access
database provided with the handheld unit. Another powerful feature is
the ability to open an image or document at the click of a button, when
it cannot be conveniently shown within the body of a form.
Visual CE
applications can use numerous controls including labels, edit boxes, note
boxes, check boxes, radio buttons, command buttons, lookups, and drop
down lists. Font control, device-based printing, timestamps, Digital Ink
(scribble), and simple calculations are also supported. Additional features
include support for color, data filtering, wild card searches, password
protection, and calculations across records. Supported data types include
text, note, bitmap, data/time, numeric, and money. A pop-up calendar,
file selection box, and numeric keypad facilitate data entry.
Four Editions
Available
Visual CE is available
in four editions to support the varied needs of individual and business
users. Visual CE Lite
is an entry level version ideal for non-programmers building databases
and forms for their own use. The Personal
Edition offers full synchronization capabilities as well as additional
database and forms building functionality. The Professional
and Enterprise Editions
are designed for creating more advanced and multi-user applications, with
additional capabilities for manipulating tables as well as the ability
to synchronize multiple devices to one desktop.
The Enterprise
Edition includes SYWARE's Report
CE® a full-featured reporting and printing tool for Visual CE.
Users can create and print invoices, quotes, reports, and other custom
documents from any Windows CE device, using any printer with an infrared
connection. Report CE is also available for purchase separately with the
other Visual CE editions.
The Professional
and Enterprise Editions allow developers to create an unlimited number
of applications and distribute them to an unlimited number of end-users,
royalty-free. Applications can be distributed to hundreds of users, sold,
or given away on the web.
Pricing
Visual CE Lite Edition is priced at $79 (quantity one). Visual CE Personal
Edition, with full synchronization capabilities, is priced at $129 (quantity
one). Visual CE Professional Edition offers more advanced functionality
as well as royalty-free distribution rights, and is priced at $399. Visual
CE Enterprise Edition includes all the features of the Professional Edition
plus SYWARE's Report CE software, and is available for $599.

Handheld PC 2000
The recently announced Handheld PC 2000 is Microsoft's fourth generation
of software for Windows®-powered handheld PCs. Handheld PC 2000 is
based on the Microsoft® Windows CE 3.0 operating system, with additional
functionality including a Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0-compatible browser,
an email client, personal information manager (PIM) functionality, and
pocket versions of desktop Office applications. Hardware providers that
